  • Do Not Use Bleach to Kill Mold!  It's like giving the mold CPR!  Most people mix four parts of water to one part of bleach; However, the one part "kills", but the other four parts of water will "revive" the mold.

  • Discard and replace porous or absorbent materials that have been saturated with water and or mold.
  • Fix leaks in plumbing as soon as possible. Make sure the area is dry before closing cabinet doors.
  • Remove mold from surfaces with 20 Mule Team Borax mixed with water; clean and dry area completely.
  • Maintain proper ventilation in bathrooms, laundry areas and kitchens.
  • Make sure exhaust fans are properly vented out of the home.  Clean out the vent cover and fan blades twice per year.
  • Clean and repair roof gutters at least twice per year to prevent ice-damming.
  • Direct rain gutter flow away from the foundation to prevent flooding in a crawlspace.
  • Properly vent dryers, stoves and heaters that produce moisture.
  • Control the humidity in your home; mold Starts to grow at 50% humidity.
  • Make sure to use your bathroom fan of 2-5 minutes to evacuate out moisture after a bath.  
  • Don't close off the coldest room in your house and turn off the heat in that room especially in winter months.
  • Keep the humidity inside the building between 30 and 40 percent.
  • Check your toilet seal to make sure it is not leaking. If your toilet is sweating - your close to a mold outbreak.
